Behaviour Consultations All behaviour consultations are now organised from my sister company Pets in Practise. please visit for further information www.petsinpractise.co.uk Many problem behaviours can be addressed with a little training, other problems are more complex and require accurate assessment of such. You may require a behaviour consultation if your pet is displaying any of the problems listed below: Separation related problems – Destructive or vocal behaviours when left alone, aggression when leaving the house Fear based problems – Barking or lunging at dogs, people, bicycles etc Sound sensitivities – Thunder, Fireworks Attention seeking behaviours – Jumping up, barking, nipping Inappropriate chasing or obsessive behaviours – Tail chasing, shadow chasing, over-grooming Inappropriate toileting – Urination or defecation in unwanted locations Resource issues - Guarding or aggression around food, toys or possessions I work with methods which assess your pets whole lifestyle. This ensures their mental and physical needs are being met, we work out what is reinforcing any undesirable behaviour and go about retraining a preferred one. This is done using a tailor made behavioural modification programme using positive reward and reinforcement training. Behavioural modification is often not a short term programme and you must be fully committed to the plan to ensure its success. Once you have got in touch I will send out an initial consultation form for completion, this gives me an indication of your pets lifestyle and behaviour problem(s). I only take on Behaviour consultations via Veterinary Referral, this ensures there are no health concerns underlying the behavioural problem. You do not need to do anything but provide me with your Vet Surgery details, I will contact them directly to obtain consent prior to consultation. It is also helpful if you are able to video some of your pets behaviours in case they are not displayed during the visit. Once all this is in place I will contact you to make an appointment at a time convenient to you. The consultation will last approximately two hours. We will discuss the questionnaire in detail and build a modification programme to suit you and your pets requirements. After I have left I will forward you a report detailing all we have discussed and arrange a follow up call or visit, as appropriate. Please get in touch if you wish to discuss your pets behaviours and whether a behavioural consultation might be for you. |
Nicole came to visit us when we got our new Labrador puppy Lily. We already had an established dog aged 7 years, who Nicole was familiar with and we wanted expert advice on settling them in together.
Nicole came to our house a week after Lily arrived and watched the interaction between the two dogs. This was an extremely useful exercise as she was able to advise us on things to watch for eg, body language, tail wagging etc. We felt alot more comfortable after spending a good couple of hours in the company of Nicole and learnt a great deal on how to manage certain situations that may or may not arise.
After the visit Nicole is always willing to give any further advice and is easily contactable by phone or email.
